Can’t believe I’ve been living in the Dam for three weeks now…
Ahhhh it’s gone soooo fast.
I wish I could tell you that I’ve been super busy integrating into society. You know, sorting out all of those crucial things that you need to do when you move abroad, like:
- Finding a place to live
- Gaining access to money
- Learning the language
- Sorting out a mode of transport
- Joining a gym (crucial to me)
- Buying health insurance (not so crucial to me, but apparently mandatory)
Unfortunately Ive only done one of those things.
Granted it’s the most important one – finding a place to live – but that’s only because my job sorted me out with an estate agent. If left up to me, I’d probably be looking into squatting right about now. I’ve heard they have pretty decent rights in the Netherlands, so it wouldn’t be completely insane.
The reason I’ve been kinda lapse is because relocating to Amsterdam has been an absolute dream. When I was in the ‘consideration’ phase of accepting the job, I was told that all I would need to do is pack a suitcase.
As you can imagine, I was pretty sceptical. But it turns out, they weren’t lying.
They flew me over, picked me up from the airport, paid for my accommodation until I found a house, gave me a travel card so I could get places, booked my expat appointment so I could become “official”, paid for my
furniture clothes to be shipped over, and gave me an estate agent to find me a flat.
I’m getting quite used to the luxury life of not having to do anything, but alas, it’s time to make it on my own….I can’t be a kept woman forever.
So this week my goal is to transform myself into a fully fledged resident of Amsterdam.
Anddddd that’s pretty much challenge 16 in a nutshell.
